The Biennale is one of the most prestigious cultural institutions of the world for over a century.

Since its beginning in 1895 the Biennale is in the forefront as far as the promotion of new artistic tendencies are concerned organizing international exhibitions of contemporary art in accordance with a disciplinary model that characterize its uniqueness.
The International Exhibition of Film Art and the International Exhibition of Art and the International Exhibition of Architecture are at the top in the world; the great tradition of the Music Festival, Theatre Festival and now the Dance Festival goes on.

The Biennale is promoter of publishing initiatives in the same fields. It is visible by all medias.Thanks to ASAC, the Historic Archive of Contemporary Art, the Biennale preserves the documents of its own history.

The seats of the Foundation, which are visited by 320.000 visitors each year, are not its own property: the Municipality of Venice places by law at the Biennale’s disposal the Gardens of Castello (Visual Arts and Architecture); the “Palazzo del Cinema” and the Casino in Lido (Film Art), the Arsenal (Visual Arts and Architecture), the “Teatro alle Tese” and the “Teatro Piccolo Arsenale” (Dance, Music, Theatre) are got thanks to many-years agreements with the Navy and the Agenzia delle Entrate.
