Venice events: Feast of St. Mark (St. Marcus) - April 25th

Venice used to sanctify April 25th far before that date became the actual National Holiday of Italy liberation.

April 25th is the feast of Saint Mark the Evangelist, patron of Venice (date of the death of the Saint).

Nowadays St. Marcus Day is celebrated with a procession in the Basilica.

There is a hugely widespread tradition on this day: Venetian men give a long-stemmed red rose to their beloved.
