Venice events: the Burano Regatta
The last of the season's great Venetian regattas takes place in the waters
around Burano, one of the major peripheral islands off the city of Venice
itself. The boat race features two-oared gondole for the men
and mascerete for
the women, and starts at the northern end of the nearby island of Sant'Erasmo.
The competition is also known as the Rivincita della Storica , as the losers of the Regata Storica earlier in the season get a chance to recoup their losses at this race.
Though waterbound, the action is visible from land, particularly from the ferry-point on Burano. Ther regatta is held in front os burano Island.
