Venice islands: Campalto
The island of Campalto is situated in the Central Lagoon, between Venice and Campalto on the Tortola Canal.
The island takes its name from the town on the coast in front. It was constructed and fortified in the XIX century as a battery.
After the second world war, it was abandoned and for twenty years, it was used as a dump for solid town waste, but it caught fire due to self-combustion and was then completely abandoned.
