Venice islands: Certosa

Ancient home of the Carthusian monks (also called the Order of St. Bruno), this island has a flourishing vegetation and valuable archaeological remains as well as recent military buildings to be renovated. A committee formed by associations and citizens it was working towards making the island a park for the city of Venice.
Today the Certosa island (Isola della Certosa) has been reborn after a long period of decline, thanks to an economic and cultural regeneration programme.
You could find now on the island:
- a harbour/marina with around 100 moorings and a boat yard, the Vento di Venezia Yachting Centre (www.ventodivenezia.it)
- The Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), that offers masters, advanced training courses and workshops for a heterogeneous public (www.ied.it)
How to reach the Certosa island: at S.Lucia rail station, take the Vaporetto n. 51, get off at Sant'Elena stop, take the Vaporetto n.41 and ask to the sailor to stop in Certosa.
