Venice islands: Tronchetto
The artificial Tronchetto island is another parking area in Venice (the other is Piazzale Roma).
If you'd rather not park on the mainland, the best balance between convenience and economy is offered by the Tronchetto parking garage and is also the only place to park if you're driving a large camper or motorhome (in Venice obviously).
Reaching Tronchetto: from the mainland, take the causeway toward Venice. On the Ponte della Libertà (Freedom bridge) stay in the right lane. Just before you reach the city, you see an exit labeled "Tronchetto": follow this road.
Be careful:
A particular problem on the Isola del Tronchetto is false water-taxi drivers. These people may wear official-looking caps and badges and approach the freshly parked tourist with stories of having the only kind of vessel available to transfer people from Tronchetto to destinations elsewhere in Venice. This is rubbish, as vaporetti (water-bus) call here regularly. (Information supplied by Lonely Planet)
